Definition of Dedicated Hosting

When we talk about hosting web servers, there are three major categories - shared hosting web servers, VPS (Virtual Private Servers) and dedicated servers. Shared web servers accommodate numerous customers and so the resources per web hosting account are restricted, virtual private server plans offer more configuration liberty, but also influence other virtual web servers on the hardware node if utilized heedlessly, and dedicated servers offer you the liberty to carry out everything you please without intervening with anyone else.

Why would you require a dedicated server?

Dedicated servers are generally much more high-priced than shared web servers or virtual web servers. Why would anyone, then, use them? The explanation is quite simple. If your company has a heavy resource-demanding web portal, or just has very precise web server architecture requirements, the most suitable option would be a dedicated server. For somebody who is ready to invest in safety and reliability, the higher price is not a problem. You are granted complete root access and can use 100% of the dedicated web hosting server's resources without anyone else sharing these resources and intervening with your online portals.

Hardware specs

Most shared hosting service providers, incl. us at Hosting Egypt, provide several different hardware configurations you can pick from based on your needs. The hardware architectures offer different sorts of microprocessors, a different amount of cores, different RAM memory and hard disk sizes and different web traffic quotas. You can choose a hosting Control Panel, which is a convenient graphical user interface if you would like to use the dedicated hosting server for web hosting purposes solely and choose not to use an SSH terminal for all the modifications you will be making. We provide three kinds of Control Panel software - Hepsia, DirectAdmin and cPanel.

The web hosting Control Panel of your choice

If you are a self-reliant Linux OS user (our dedicated hosting servers are running on Linux or other Unix-based Operating Systems), you could manage your dedicated server via a Secure Shell connection exclusively. That, though, could be awkward, especially if you decide to grant full root-level access to someone else who has less technical expertise than yourself. This is why having hosting CP software pre-activated is a great idea. The Hepsia web hosting CP tool that we provide does not include root privileges and is chiefly appropriate for someone who has numerous web pages that require plenty of system resources, but prefers to administer the sites, databases and email mailbox accounts using a user-friendly hosting Control Panel. The DirectAdmin and cPanel web hosting Control Panels, on the other hand, give you full server root access and include three access levels - root, reseller and user. If you intend to resell web hosting plans rather than utilizing the server solely for yourself, you should select one of these two.

Server monitoring and backup services

Last but not least, there is the issue of monitoring the dedicated server and of backing it up. In case of a problem with your web server, such as a non-responsive Apache or an outage, it is good to have some kind of monitoring platform enabled. Here at Hosting Egypt the system administrators monitor all dedicated servers for ping timeouts, and, if you order a Managed Services upgrade, they monitor the individual services on the dedicated server as well. Backups are also a bonus feature - the web hosting vendor offers you data backups on our own backup web servers. You could select a type of RAID that would permit you to store the same data on 2 hard disks as a precaution in case of a hard disk failure, or in case someone whom you have ranted full server root privileges erases something by mistake.
